Routine Maintenance

Regular inspections of your home’s heating, cooling and ventilation system is critical to safety, air quality and efficiency.

We’ve been in this business a long time, and we’ve pretty much seen it all. One thing we can tell you with absolute certainty is that routine maintenance eliminates your risk of many potential problems and safety hazards with heating and cooling systems.

3 Reasons to have your system serviced at least yearly

1. Protecting your investment

At North Island Heating, we understand that your heating and cooling system is a major investment. That’s why we like to point out that if problems are caught early, it can save you a lot of money down the line. Annual inspections and preventative maintenance can help ensure that your tanks, ducts, pumps and heating systems function properly – and continue to do so for many years to come.

2. Saving you money

Regular maintenance helps mitigate the danger of oil and gas drains plugging up, and reduces the risk of pumps flooding and ruining your flooring. Regular maintenance also ensures that your equipment runs efficiently – something that could save you hundreds of dollars a year in energy costs alone.

3. Assuring your family’s safety

This is by far the most compelling reason for routine inspection and maintenance: all gas, oil and electric heating systems carry the risk of hazard if they’re not properly serviced and maintained. Sadly, accidents happen far more often than they should, sometimes with tragic results. Some of those tragedies could have been prevented with regular HVAC inspections.

We highly recommend an annual professional inspection of your HVAC system, paired with routine cleanings and annual maintenance – or as often as deemed necessary. Cutting corners with your heating system is never a good idea; regular inspections and maintenance are the keys to assuring your family’s continued comfort and safety.

Is there anything I can do myself?

Absolutely! In addition to scheduling an annual inspection and maintenance call, there are a few simple things you can do yourself to ensure your heating or cooling system runs smoothly.

  • Clean and change your filters on a monthly basis (or more often, if required)
  • Ensure your furnace room or mechanical room is free of clutter (which can be a fire hazard)
  • Regularly remove any build-up of dirt, snow, debris, leaves or shrubbery from outdoor units
  • Never obstruct an outdoor unit by shielding it with a protective cover – this can create a hazard
  • Clean outdoor coils as required
